Girls stabbing friend in Wisconsin to prove Slenderman legend

On May 31st, two 12-year-old Waukesha girls attempted to murder their friend by stabbing her 19 times in the arms, legs and torso in the bathroom of David’s Park. The injured girl crawled out of the park to Big Bend Road, where she was found by a passing bicyclist.

Upon arrest, her attackers confessed they were attempting to prove the existence of Slenderman, a legend they read about on a site called Creepypasta.

The girls believed they would be able to visit Slenderman’s mansion after the murder. One of them even packed a photo of her family in her backpack so she could remember them when she was gone.

Slenderman is a fictional character who originated in a short horror story posted online in 2009 with photoshopped images of children playing on a playground while a thin, shadowy creature with tentacles lurks in the background.

The girls have been charged as adults for attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
